First Generation Scholarship
Description: This scholarship supports students pursuing a degree at CSCC and who have not had either parent graduate from college.
Use: Tuition, Fees, Books and other expenses.
Eligible Program(s) of Study: All Degree/Certificate programs
High School or College GPA: 2.5 cum, minimum
Enrollment Requirement: Must be enrolled a minimum of 12 credit hours at the time that the award is applied to your student account for the specific semester.
Reference(s): Student must provide contact info for current CSCC Faculty/Staff member, Supervisor/Employer, or other individual who can attest to your character or work ethic and serve as a Reference on your behalf.
FAFSA: A completed and submitted FAFSA for the current academic year must be on file to be considered for this opportunity.
Additional Requirement(s):
1. In addition to the essay question on the general application, a student must write an essay, in 1000 words or less, that describes your family background, what it means to be the first in your family to attend college, and how this scholarship will help you achieve your dreams. Students may not use essays from previous assignments/competitions. If essays are copied, the student will receive zero points for that category. * Also, when writing the first gen essay, do not use help from artificial intelligence programs. The purpose of the essay is to showcase your own voice and perspective. Therefore, the use of AI in writing the essay is prohibited. Essays determined to be written by AI will receive zero points for the category.*
2. Must be a high school graduate.
3. Must not have a prior degree from CSCC or any other college.
4. Students may only be considered twice for this scholarship.
